Ciclovia Corn Road

relaxing bike ride along the Urubamba River

The Tour

Tasting The Road offers you a wonderful day of easy mountain biking along the Urubamba River in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Our private transportation picks you up from your hotel in Cusco in the morning. We leave the city and drive to the town of Pisaq in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. After getting our bikes ready and going through the safety briefing, we start our ride from the Pisaq bridge. It takes about five to ten minutes to get to the entrance of the bike path. In the beginning, there is a big sign with a map indicating the route. It starts off with a detour to a picturesque village and its church, a small colonial style chapel, which gives us the first impression of traveling in time. We cross the plaza of the village and follow the signs of the bike path. At this point, the road turns into a gravel road, and our bike adventure begins. This route provides us with some of the most beautiful views on this part of the Sacred Valley. We follow the Urubamba River that guides us and provides us with a nice fresh breeze on the way. Our first stop is an old colonial house, which is well-known because it used to be the home of late Clorinda Matto de Turner, a famous Peruvian writer who inspired many other women to start fighting for their rights as indigenous. This place is perfect for taking a snack and learning a bit more about the story of this great Peruvian woman. Continuing our ride, we can see how the landscape is constantly changing. During the rain season, this path is surrounded by corn plantings. You can see a number of farms dedicated to growing corn. At this point, we share the road with little butterflies, humming birds and other birds that sing and cross between the trees and bushes. We stop at a nice spot with a wonderful view on the river and take a moment to enjoy our Peruvian box lunch. The ride goes on along the corn fields, we take in the magic of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, its fertile grounds and the vibrant agricultural colors. We finish at the exit of Calca, the capital of the Sacred Valley and the province with the same name, where our private transport is waiting to take us back to Cusco. We cheer to a wonderful cycling day in the Sacred Valley with a cold Peruvian beer!
